We're not trying to build the toughest name. We're trying to build the toughest players.
The Story Behind the Name
A few years ago, one of my college friends, Jared Allen, coached his daughters' team. They called themselves the Unicorn Sparkles. I watched those girls play with confidence, laugh together, compete hard, and genuinely love the game.
It got me thinking...
Why do we have to stop having fun just because we get older?
Every now and then someone says,
"Sparkling Unicorns? Isn't that a little... soft?"
My answer is always the same:
We're not trying to build the toughest name. We're trying to build the toughest players.
A Name People Remember
Somewhere along the way, youth sports decided every team had to sound intimidating.
Wolves. Storm. Elite. Venom.
Those are all great names, but a team name has never made a great player.
Practice does. Accountability does. Coaching does. Trusting your teammates does.
As someone who spent years in marketing, I also know that memorable brands matter. A unique name gets people talking. Players wear the gear with pride. Families remember it. Opponents remember it too.
More Than a Name
The name is fun, but the culture is serious.
Our mission is to develop skilled athletes, confident young women, and teammates who compete with heart without losing the joy that brought them to lacrosse.
We believe players perform their best when they feel supported, are held accountable, and receive real opportunities to grow.
So yes…we are the Sparkling Unicorns.
We will work hard.
We will compete.
We will hold one another accountable.
And we will have fun doing it.
